    In-House or OutSourced Services

I managing small / medium web hosting company, I often wonder if its better to have in house services / employees related to server management, support etc or should one go for outsourcing these. Both have their pro and cons and generally I am adopting a mixed approach at the moment. I think server management can be outsources easily, however, routine support an billing related issues need to be dealt in-house.

    Hi,

If you have the customers and resources, it will always be better to have everything in house for the long run.

Thats true, the decision making comes in when you are a border liner for resources.

For small and medium sized companies, in house is always better as long as you have the infrastructure and resources.

infrastructure and resources are the limiting factory, if these are adequate one would not like to outsource most of the things. Yet there are still many things outsources by bigger companies having lot of resources.

As long as they can do their job, it doesn't make a difference. Best if you interview everybody who is gonna work on your helpdesk.

Both has its pros and cons, but in-house will be better as it gives a more personal touch to your clients and you understand the problem best, thus theres lesser delay in getting a resolution for a problem.

As you are a small / medium web hosting company its best to do in house service with your available resources, because outsourcing would definitely be costly compared to in house service and would only leave you with little profit. However in order to do in house service you need to have a well experienced staff if they are unable to solve customer queries or fix customer issues in appropriate time , it may end your business in disaster in long run. Thus make sure you have good staff. Or as an alternative option, there are hosting providers who are in business for a long time, who would provide technical support for your clients too. Since they are in business for long time you can trust their service. Their plan includes this facilities free of charge. If you are able to find such a provider am sure you would be able to find a solution for your existing problem, you can handover your technical support to them with confidence and handle only the billing tickets. Once your hosting company expands you can make decision to have your own technical support team.
